Matteo was born in Treviso in 1983 and is an epee specialist. An individual silver medallist at the 2007 European Championships in Ghent, he won gold and a bronze in the team event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He won a silver in the individual epee at the World Championships in Turkey in 2009 and a bronze in the team epee at the European Championships in Plovdiv.
